outline of research paper
I. Introduction
My argument is "Does athletics play a positive or negative effect on athlete's academics?" I chose this topic because there are positive and negative effects and a lot of people have studied this topic before. My thesis is "Athletics provides many benefits for most student-athletes, including a positive outcome in their academics." I find it hard to chose just positive or just negative in this argument because it can go both ways.
II. Explanation
After my introduction of explaining my argument and stating my claim, I will talk about the positive effects on students academics.
1. You must have good grades and good attendance in order to be provided the benefit of athletics in most schools.
2. Being an athlete will keep you in line and out of trouble. Playing a sport is a priority and many athletes take their sport seriously. Most athletes will chose their sport over most things. i.e. Not going out over the weekend because you have practice or a tournament. It keeps you busy!
3.
Then I will talk about the negative effects on students academics through my counterclaims.

Citing in MLA style
The citing in the first paper has some similarities and some differences from the the second paper. In the first paper, when the author quotes something he puts the authors and and the page number in parenthesis. In so e cases the authors name was in the quote or paper and it was unnecessary to have the authors name in parenthesis. When he quoted 4 or more lines he indented the quote 1 inch. If the author isn't given to quote he used the title instead. He work cited page is double spaced and alphabetized by the authors last name.
In the second paper, when a source is quoted in another source, the secondary source and date are in the first set if parenthesis and the page number are in the second. When an in-text quote is cited, she used the authors last name, the publication date, and the page number and she put it in parenthesis. Her quotation of 40+ words was indented 5-7 spaces. Her work cited page was very similar to his, it was double spaces and alphabetized by authors last name.

Research Paper Topic
My field and study of interest is Exercise Science so I thought of a few topics that I may be interested in writing about and came up with:
-How have ESPN and other media sources influenced (positively or negatively) professional sports in the past few years?
-The essentials of sports training
-The influence that sports has on athlete's academics
I want to try and find good sources on athletes and academics because it is a well known argument and I think that it is a broad topic that is interesting and important in my field. There are good and bad impacts on athletes academics which allows me to be able to expand my thoughts on my sources that I find. Many research questions can come about this topic and they can all relate.
Research Question thoughts:
(Impacts on Athlete's Academics)
-financial commitments
-promotion
-student recruitment
-social and physiological opportunities
-improved social skills
-improved academic achievement

Writing Within Kinesiology
Kinesiology is the study of health and human performances; within this major you can specifically study sports administration or exercise science. With a degree in health and human performance you can acquire a job as a physical therapist, physical education teacher, a personal trainer or an athletic trainer. Kinesiologists are required to understand, communicate and share their research and knowledge of their studies to not only their patients but to other doctor’s as well. When choosing a profession in this field it is important to recognize the requirements that you must attain. Although you may not know, writing plays a certain role within kinesiology and in kinesiology, writing is based on certain techniques. Examples of these writings include research projects, lab reports, case study articles, medical notes, and patient recommendations.
When writing in kinesiology it is important to know your purpose, and who you audience is so that you can chose the correct genre, stance and media for your particular writing. Your audience will most likely be your patients or other doctors researching the same topic. In research projects your purpose is to research and gain knowledge on a particular topic and report your findings. In some cases, you may test your research or use it to support your ideas and understandings in health and human performance. The genre you chose depends on the purpose of your writing. In a case study article or a lab report you must include an abstract, background information, a purpose, different methods, the results, and your discussion or opinion on the study.
It is important to be knowledgeable with your stance, and make sure that your attitude fits the genre of your paper. It is important to think in positive terms if you are a personal or athletic trainer because your job is to help encourage and boost confidence in health and human performance. So your attitude in any patient recommendations needs to be positive and encouraging. The media varies with writing in kinesiology, but in a medical note or patient recommendation you may use diagrams to explain exercises for rehabilitation or to explain an injury.
Lara Pro states, “Another particular writing that is done as a personal or athletic trainer is advertisement. It is necessary that you advertise yourself and your knowledge so that you can gain more clientele.” Lara uses Instagram, Twitter, and other social medias to advertise herself. She also is a distributor of a productcalled Advocare, which is a 24-day challenge to help cleanse yourself and start eating healthier meals. This helps her because this is an informal writing that she can produce to allow her followers to be comfortable with exercising and their own bodies. Advertising is important in this profession because it is an informal writing that allows you to share what you know through your own experiences. “It can create a trusting bond between you and your clientele,” Lara says.
Although there is not a huge difference in writing for bachelors, masters and doctorate degree there are a few differences like the style or genre. If you are perusing a bachelor’s degree, not a lot of writing is done. Yes, there are research papers that are required but most of the work is done hands on. “I did more labs when I was getting my bachelor degree.” Lara agrees that there are more “hands on” activities.Writing as a graduate in this field is more research, and knowing the knowledge without research. Lara claims that critiquing is a big step up from studying in this profession as an undergraduate. She also states that your word choice must be advanced and you need to know all of the terms that are important to know within this profession. When writing research papers it is important to use various, correct, reliable sources without using the Internet and sometimes your own opinion.
This is all I have for now, I still need to add more quotes from my interviews and cite my sources.
