Reflections

1/5/15
Last class we reviewed what rhetorical situation was and the different components within a rhetorical situation. We talked about writing in academic context; the thesis, the sources, and what kind of stance you should have when writing in academic context. We also went over our first assignment to better understand what we are suppose to do in the assignment. We went over the purpose, audience, and the different challenges that we might face when starting our assignment like who to interview or what to ask, and finding the right sources to use. We also talked about the differences between academic and non-academic sources and examples of these sources. Lastly, we reviewed and talked about how to interview; ask open ended questions, take good notes, record if necessary and only with permission, and send thank them thanks.

From my first assignment I learned how to organize and write an informational report. I learned how to use rhetorical situation to help me write my paper knowing my audience and the purpose of the paper, I created a certain stance and media for my paper. Not only did I learn ho to write an informational report but I also learned what kinds of writing I will have to do for my major. The writings that are expected in my major are pretty obvious so i basically knew what would be expected from me in terms of writing but I did learn about different audiences that ill be facing and I learned about the purposes of most of the writings that ill be doing. My research and interviews backed up my assumptions well. My challenges with this assignments were getting interviews done and changing the organization of my paper for my final draft after I had already created my rough draft. I learned that I need to work on my organization of my papers, and create a outline before I write my rough draft. Rhetorical situation is now one of my strengths I believe because i understand it a lot better and it helps me form my paper and write it correctly. I personally liked the group conference, I think that hearing what she wrote and what she needed to correct as well as what I wrote and what I needed to correct was very helpful when finishing my final draft. It helped me understand what you wanted in my paper and how well my paper was already written. I wouldn't mind continuing group conferences but it seems like other people didn't like it to much so individual conferences wouldn't bother me either. But overall the conferences are very helpful.
